Happy #EarthWeek! Check out this morning’s CBS News segment about CarbonQuest! Bradley Blackburn visited our carbon capture system at the Grand Tier in New York City and spoke with our COO Brian Asparro about how our #carboncapture technology captures CO2 from the buildings’ natural gas boiler before it is ever emitted into the air. Bradley also visited Glenwood Mason Supply Company Inc. to see how the Sustainable CO2 ™ is then injected into concrete blocks, where it becomes permanently stored as a rock, supporting more environmentally-friendly construction projects and providing a sustainable material for a green circular economy. Happy Earth Day from the CarbonQuest team! This day serves as an important reminder of the urgent need to tackle the #climatecrisis and decarbonize hard-to-abate facilities as quickly as we can. CarbonQuest remains committed to providing immediate on-site emission reduction solutions to buildings, campus facilities, utility infrastructure, and biogenic waste sites while contributing to the growing carbon #circulareconomy with our Sustainable CO2 offering. Interested in learning more about the impact we’re making and the future of CarbonQuest? “When [data centers] look for independent power, that leaves really one or two options, fuel cells or cogeneration, combined heat and power, and sometimes fuel cells can be part of that… All those independent power systems typically run on natural gas, so that is a problem from a decarbonization perspective,” shares Anna Pavlova, CarbonQuest’s Senior Vice President of Strategy, Market Development, and Sustainability. As Anna explains to Philip Russo in a recent conversation for the Commercial Observer on the challenge of reducing emissions from data centers, #carboncapture solutions — combined with fuel cells or combined heat and power (CHP) engines — allow data centers to continuously power their operations without straining grid capacity and emitting CO2. “The concrete manufacturer takes CO2 captured at a residential building by its partner company, CarbonQuest, and uses a technique licensed from low-carbon concrete startup CarbonCure to convert the compressed carbon into a powder not unlike dry ice.” Read more in Bloomberg about how our partner, Glenwood Mason Supply Company Inc., is using our recycled Sustainable CO2™ to strengthen and reduce the carbon footprint of cement. Thank you Coco Liu for touring our system at the Grand Tier and visiting Glenwood Mason to see how we are working with CO2 off-takers to grow New York City’s carbon economy. "The law’s implementation policy needs to empower property owners to make an impact quickly — and allowing flexibility to find the best decarbonization solutions is key to achieving the city’s goals.”-Josh London, senior vice president at Glenwood Management on Local Law 97. Many property owners like Glenwood Management are making good-faith efforts to reduce carbon emissions to meet the standards set by Local Law 97. However, as London explains, not all decarbonization solutions are viable in every type of building, especially “hard-to-abate” buildings where electrification and energy efficiency upgrades aren’t feasible. Technologies like on-site #carboncapture enable properties to make an immediate impact on emission reductions cost-effectively. Read more in the Daily News about how New York City can be a model for cities around the world with a pragmatic approach to building decarbonization. https://bit.ly/3HhIHpi

We are proud to sign the Carbon Capture Coalition’s open letter calling on Congress to make adjustments to the federal Section 45Q tax credit. For the credit to realize its potential, bring green economy jobs, and build a green circular economy, the credit for utilizing CO2 to displace petroleum or permanently store it in concrete should be equal to the credit currently given to geological sequestration. Additionally, it must index for inflation beginning immediately rather than in 2027, so that companies can operate during times of high inflation and interest rates. For carbon capture technologies like ours to scale cost-effectively, legislation like the 45Q credit is critical. However, adjustments are necessary to maximize its effectiveness. It’s wonderful to see increasing support of #carboncapture projects in Canada, which will play a critical role in helping the country meet its 2050 net-zero emissions goals. Importantly, the investment tax credit is not just for a limited number of industrials, but will also support #CHP owners who wish to use carbon capture to reduce emissions. CarbonQuest was recently named winner of FortisBC’s Compact Carbon Capture Challenge, and are looking forward to working on Canadian projects as part of this opportunity. We also announced a partnership this month with Daroga Power, in which CarbonQuest’s carbon capture technology will be used to bring low-carbon fuel cells to companies in Canada and the U.S. We are confident that Canada will be a global leader in the net zero transition by continuing to leverage carbon capture as a decarbonization tool.
