Our History

In 1965, four mothers refused to accept that their children would be barred from school and their communities. They founded Northwest Center, led the fight for the first state law to grant access to public education to people with disabilities, paved the way for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and made history. They changed the world, and their spirit continues today at Northwest Center, as it expands opportunities for people with disabilities from birth through their careers.​
